Look at our boy believing in himself ❤️
Didn't think we could get any more prouder of Roo, then he goes and does even more.
6 goals and 12 score involvements. The next best best score involvements of any player on the ground was 9...
His usual fantastic and reliable disposal efficiency (81.3%). 16 disposals, 10 marks.
Across the last 3 games, Roo's Wheelo player rating of 20.5 is the 3rd best in the AFL, & his 14 goals is the equal best in the AFL.
From Sir Swamp Thing on Twitter - Jacob is the first Melbourne player since Jesse Hogan in 2018 to kick 5+ goals two weeks in a row (and before that it was Neitz 2006 and Robbo 2005).

Oh boy, did the bye do our young players some good or what!?!
We got out to a 96 point lead, absolutely crushing one of the premiership contenders. Yes we then gave up a heap of goals in the last to "only" win by 6 goals, but if you watch the replay of the last quarter, Steven King was doing a lot of experimenting...
And how about our boy. Where do we even start?
5 goals
24 disposals, 8 marks, 4 clearances, 10 score involvements, 4 inside 50s (!!!)
Some highlights of Roo's amazing game here

If our young team wasn't so tired from being the last team to get a bye, playing our third game in 12 days, and having two days less breakj from the previous game than the Crows - we would have won this.
Just ran out of legs late in the game, and the Crows were very very good.
JvR kicked 3 goals in the first quarter (!)
Apart from the goals, Roo also had 15 touches, 3 marks and 2 tackles.
To sum up his contribution to the team perfectly, he had 7 score involvements - the most of any Demon.
As we head into the bye and the boys finally get a well deserved rest, let's look at Roo's stats across the season so far.
He has so far averaged 5.5 score involvements per game - behind only Kozzy and Max, and equal with Chandler, Steele and Sharp.
Roo has also kicked the most goals for the Dees so far this season with 24 (Kozzy the next best at 22).

Another solid win to honour Neale Daniher 💙
The gusty and swirling wind made it challenging for our tall forwards.
Roo kicked a goal during the 6 minute mark applause to celebrate Neale Daniher (Video here)
He also had 4 score involvements.

What a fantastic day to honour Neale Daniher - a huge crowd, a cracking game, and a sea of blue beanies that were a constant reminder of why the Big Freeze is needed.
It was nice to finally win a close one against this mob.
Love this photo of Roo for several reasons - celebrating a goal, always here for a JvR gun show, and the bloke lying face first on the ground in the backround...
Roo kicked a goal and was actively involved up the ground all day. In the last play where Koz kicks the sealer, it was Roo who tacked JDG in the middle of the ground, causing the turnover that we were able to get the ball forward to Koz from.
Just one example of his impact on the game around the ground.
Roo took 7 marks, the equal second most of any player on the ground.
JvR also had 4 inside 50s and 5 score involvements.

Despite having 16 more inside 50s than the Giants, this translated into only one more scoring shot, and terrible goal kicking - 9.16.
We seem to play a lot better on the big MCG, and the many youngsters we are playing (which is great) seem to be fatigued. The AFL fixturing is not helping with our only bye still a few weeks away.
Our delivery into the forward line was terrible, so there were limited opportunities for tall forwards like JvR.
With Max Heath not playing, and Petty needed in defence with the absence of Lever from concussion, Roo had to go back to providing the ruck support to Gawny.
JvR still contributed with 3 marks and 3 tackles.
He also had 7 score involvements, the equal second-most of any Demon.

We looked a bit tired and just off out there today. We kept trying and fought back from a 33 point deficit to lose by only 3 points and had some chances to win it.
We didn't get any of our tall forwards functioning well, and returned to the old Dees way of long bombs into contested packs in the foward line.
Despite it not being a great team game for tall fowards, Roo did a lot of running and connecting work up the ground.
JvR took 5 marks and was in the top 10 for metres gained for the game - not a stat a tall forward who only operates in the 50 returns - helps to show his work rate and contribution around the ground.
Of his marks, 3 were contested, the most of any Demon.
Roo also had 3 inside 50s, and 3 score involvements.

Another great team win against quality opposition. How fantastic seeing all the players contributing to the victory, while also seeming to have a heap of fun out there.
Roo kicked two goals, and you can watch videos of them here and here
Interestingly JvR only had 67% time on ground, well down from his usual 85%+
Went at his usual excellent disposal efficiency 83%

Congrats JvR on your second 5+ goal bag for the season. Video of them all here
The goals were just one part of a very impressive game from our boy.
He also had 10 score involvements, the most of any Demon. Add to this 7 marks, 3 tackles and 15 disposals.
Priceless: Seeing Roo's hard work pay off with eye catching performances while he has a lot of fun with his mates.

If you looked up "honourable loss" in the dictionary you might find this game.
The Swans are one of the best teams in it, and we fought hard to really challenge them.
How good was Roo's first goal?!? Watch the video here
JvR kicked 2 goals, despite us losing some of our forward line structure when Mihocek went down injured early in the first quarter.
He also laid 4 tackles - 2 of these inside the 50, the equal most of any Demon.
5 score involvements showed how he was important cog for us in this game.
The really impressive thing out of this game was that despite being well behind a very very good team, our players did not drop their heads and give up. They fought the game out strongly, and kept their confidence up enough to keep playing the way we want to play - fast and fun. It would have been very easy to go into our shells and go defensive to try to minimise a loss.

Always such an honour to be part of the Anzac round.
We put the foot down when it mattered, but the Tigers did put up a good fight.
A 5-2 start to the season is great, but more important long term is that the players seem to be having fun and loving their footy and their team mates again.
A dewy and slippery night made for challenging conditions for tall forwards.
Roo had 6 score involvements.

Wow! When we are good we are very very good!
JvR had a cracking game, kicking 3 goals and taking a couple of mark of the year contenders! On one of the comp's best defenders in Harris Andrews. Yes, seriously, he was nominated for Mark of the Year for this round
7 score involvements and 5 marks as well.
The key thing out of this game Roo-wise was that 2 of his goals & huge marks came at a crucial, match-winning, period of the last quarter. He was great when it mattered most. So proud!

We played the Bombers at Gather Round, again, and lost, again...
That makes us 0-3 against them at Gather Round the last 3 years.
We struggled in pretty much every facet of the game. Interesting our two losses have come from 6 day breaks and interstate travel, maybe something in that for our young team.
JvR had 5 score involvements, equal second place of any Demon.

Dees beating a premiership favourite, nepo baby team = a very good Easter!
Roo played another good game, contributing with 5 score involvements and 4 inside 50's (equal third of any Demon).
JvR kicked one goal, and took 6 marks (equal third of any Demon).
When we talk about Roo contributing, a great example is THAT Pickett combo goal in the last quarter. Look who got the first toe poke in the hot contest, that then allowed Koz to toe the ball to Trelly...

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Boy it's a lot more fun to be team coming back from a deficit than the other way around! We only kicked one goal in the entire first half, before hitting the KingBall button and proving too fast and too fit for a flaky Blues outfit.
Our delivery into the forward line was woeful the first half, limiting opportunities for Roo. In the second half in particular he was given more of the ruck load and acquitted himself well.
4 score involvements and 3 inside 50s describe his game better than just looking at his disposal total of 5 kicks.

Suspect this season is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster of a ride, and Freo certainly showed us the effects of gravity this week by pulling us back down to earth.
We did well to hang in there and fight it out after a terrible first quarter, and Freo have the potential to be Top 4 this year.
Roo had a quieter week, but the entries into the forward line were back to 2025 type bombing it in, making it challenging for our tall forwards.
Still, JvR took 4 marks, had a couple of score involvements, and went at his usual exceptional 80% disposal efficiency.

All aboard the Roo Train!!!
The JvR Appreciation Society is bursting with pride at what he was able to do against the Saints.
His incredible fitness, and a new coach, and a game plan with faster ball movement into the forward line are all helping - as is having an experienced, clever, tall forward to support him.
But you can't take a pill to build confidence, you need to find that from within, and Roo's done it.
It's so lovely seeing him now believe in himself as much as we have always believed in him.
6 goals - 5 in the first half to set the game alight, and beating his previous best return of 4.
7 marks, and 9 score involvements - the most of any Demon player.
Also, his usual excellent disposal skills - Disposal Efficiency of 85.7%.

We are just so darn proud and happy!!!

Welcome to a new year and our Roo's 5th season of being a Dee.
JvR is looking even fitter than ever before and ripping up preseason.
We are also a big yes to the short haircut.
Our first practice-practice game is now in just over 3 weeks.

Make sure you are following Roo on Insta if you're not already
In our Dees membership renewal this year we got asked to vote for our favourite player out of a list of 3 or 4 players. One of those players was Roo - if you haven't filled that out yet, please chuck a vote Roo's way so we all get to enjoy more Roo content from the Club. Cheers!
